Virtual Event Virtual Event

Join us for a webinar hosted by the ONE (Outreach-Networking-Education) Committee featuring guest speaker Shaun Bushman as he shares his insights on genetic research and his journey in the industry!

Dr. Shaun Bushman is a Research Geneticist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service in Logan, Utah. He studied botany back in the 90s at Brigham Young University, then went on to get a PhD in Plant Genetics at the University of Missouri where he focused his research on natural chemicals made in corn silks of old Central American populations, which chemicals made them resistant to insects. After Missouri he continued studies at Oregon State University under Steven Knapp, where he led eclectic projects like natural rubber production in lettuce, characterizing antioxidants in raspberry and blackberry seeds, and adjusting oil profiles in sunflower seeds. In late 2004 he made his way to Utah and became a USDA scientist focusing on perennial cool-season grass genetics. He specializes in long-term research that focuses on stakeholder needs, such as using molecular technologies to identify and characterize turfgrass cultivars. Shaun has a wonderful wife and four adult-ish children, loves to fish and hike, and restores vintage tractors.
